Some fine performances at the Northern Athletics Senior, U20, U17 Indoor Championships

The EIS Sheffield again hosted the Northern Athletics Senior, U20, U17 Indoor Championships.

Day two produced some good results, particularly in the U20 Women's and a strong field in the senior Men's pole vaults.

 Craig Jones (Liverpool Harriers) who won the Senior Men's Long Jump in 7.27m

 Lucy Robinson (Wakefield Harriers) winning the Under 20 Women's 800m in 2:17.83

 Alexandra Russell (Wigan & District) won the Senior Women's triple jump with 12.83m but missed her medal presentation having injured herself in one of her final jumps (not this one!)

Jonathan Hirons (Notts) winning the Senior Men's Midlands 800ms in 1:58.68

 Adam Hague who came second in the Senior Men's  pole vault with 5.30m

  Luke Cutts who came third in the Senior Men's  pole vault with 5.20m

 Kristie Edwards (City of Sheffield and Dearne) who won the U20 Women's 200m in 24.35

Top athletes to compete again at this year's Loughborough International Athletics 2015

The Loughborough International Athletics event is back for it's 57th year and will be taking place on Sunday 17th May 2015 at the Paula Radcliffe Athletics Stadium, Loughborough.

Kristie Edwards competing in the 100m at last weekend's CommSport Open.

Loughborough Students will be taking on teams from England, Wales, Scotland, GB & NI Juniors, and British Universities in the athletics season’s traditional curtain raiser.
Several Sheffield athletes will be in attendance (Kristie Edwards, Adam Hague, Luke Cutts) so I am hoping for a good turnout.

Action from Day 2 of the UK Indoor Athletics Championships

On another busy day of top athletics at the EIS, Sheffield Jenny Meadows won the 800 metres at the British Indoor Championships in Sheffield,  clocking 2 minutes 1.43 seconds for her seventh title at the event.

 

Laura Muir took 1500m gold in 4:13.06 seconds

Nigel Levine clocked 46.86 seconds to win the men's 400m title for a record fifth successive time and meet the European qualifying standard.

 

Tom Bosworth smashed his lifetime best to take victory in the Men’s 3,000m walk in a time of 11:30.35 seconds

 Luke Cutts and Adam Hague pushed each other on to take gold and silver in the Men's Pole Vault:

 

 Katarina Johnson-Thompson followed up her high jump record yesterday with a new PB in the 60m hurdles (a 34 point improvement)

and then rushed to congratulate winner Serita Solomon who took the title in 8.04secs.

Top sports action on Day 1 of the UK Indoor Athletics Championships - KJT sets new high jump record

On an amazing first day at the EIS, Sheffield Katarina Johnson-Thompson set a new British high jump record as she defended her indoor title in Sheffield.   The 22-year-old heptathlete (Liverpool Harriers, Mike Holmes) cleared 1.97m and then attempted 2.0m.

 Morgan Lake clears 1.94m at the first attempt

 There was a strong field in the Women's High Jump to push her on to the new record - Morgan Lake, 17, set a new PB British indoor junior record in clearing 1.94m to finish second, and silver medallist from the 2104 Commonwealth Games Isobel Pooley came in third with 1.88m.  Lake's effort, especially impressive for a 17 year old, was enough to secure her place in the British squad for next month's European Indoor Championships in Prague.

 

Chijindu Ujah stormed to victory in the Men's 60m in 6.57 seconds ahead of  Sean Safo-Antwi (6.66 seconds) and Roy Ejiakuekwu (6.72 seconds).

Dina Asher-Smith won the Women's 60m in 7.15 seconds.

60m hurdler Lawrence Clarke was pushed all the way but won in a strong finish as he returns from injury.  He dipped in 7.69 seconds to qualify for the European Indoor Championships, with David Omoregie second in 7.78 seconds.
