British Gas ASA National Championships (50M) 2012

I have been having a few more days sweating it out at Ponds Forge in Sheffield - it is just so hot in there - ok for the swimmers/divers but I have seen so many spectators go out to the shop and buy a hand-held float to use as a fan.

Anyway, another great event (well done to the ASA and British Gas) with some excellent performances as this is the last chance to snap up a spot in the GB Swimming Team for the London 2012 Olympics.
Some pictures from the event can be found here.

Seb Coe is THE man!

It's not often that a 'Sebastian' grabs the headlines, but good old Seb Coe has done a sterling job, firstly heading up the UK's bid to get the Olympics and then running the show.  On Monday it was his turn to be a bit of a figurehead and enjoy the limelight in a town where he did so much of his running in the late 70s and early 80s.  He carried the Olympic Torch along Arundel Gate in Sheffield - seen here waiting to 'kiss' the flame into life:

The world and his wife and their dog all want pictures at the moment so when I get a chance to put some on my own website I'll post an update.
Good couple of days though.  Well done to LOCOG for their organisation and especially to Sheffield City Council for putting so much effort into hosting a mega evening celebration and stopover/sendoff.

Heavy Duty Stuff

Had a very nice hour in Ecclesfield on Saturday taking stock photos of a large hydraulic shackle and control system for the nice people at LDD.  It was lifted into position by an overhead crane and we attached the pipes and control box and sat them on the white vinyl to show how it all fits together.
The shackle is for use underwater and is part of a consignment heading off to the Middle East.  I offered to do some in-situ pictures once it is all operational.....

British Gas 2012 Diving Championships

Last weekend saw the top diviers in the UK competing at Ponds Forge in Sheffield for the British Gas 2012 Diving Championships. Photos from the event can be seen here.  Deserved winners of the men's 10m synchro competition were Tom Daley and Pete Waterfield:

More details of the competition can be found at: British Das 2012 Diving Championships
