British Sprinters James Ellington & Nigel Levine involved in motorbike crash in Tenerife

British sprinters James Ellington and Nigel Levine are "conscious and stable" after a motorbike accident in Tenerife, where they were warm-weather training.

Nigel Levine, 400m, UK Indoors Championhips, Sheffield 2013

According to reports, the pair were riding on motorbikes when they were involved in a crash with a vehicle travelling in the opposite direction.

Terrible news as both would have been looking forward to competing in the major indoor athletics events next month (UK Indoors in Sheffield and the Muller Grand Prix in Birmingham). Hope you guys come back stronger.

Action from Day 2 of the British Athletics Championships

Sprinter James Dasaolu ran 9.93 seconds in a wind-assisted men's 100m final to win the battle of the British sprint kings and book a seat on the plane to his second Olympic Games.  The 2014 European 100m champion held off the fast-finishing James Ellington (9.96) and CJ Ujah (9.97) in a final that thrilled the crowd at the Alexander Stadium, Birmingham.  Ellington was elated to claim seecond place and an automatic Olympic place.  With the men's 200m runners also in good form this season it bodes well for the relays at both distances.

Earlier Asha Philip won her third British 100m title with Dina Asher-Smith saving herself for the 200m, and Tiffany Porter beat her younger sister Cindy Ofili in the women's 100m hurdles final.

More Olympic places for Andy Butchart and Tom Farrell in the men's 5,000m.   Sophie Hitchon confirmed her place in the hammer, and Holly Bradshaw did the same in the pole vault with a season's best clearance of 4.60m.

More action from the Birmingham Grand Prix

In a hectic 3 hours of competition, Olympic Champion Greg Rutherford won the Men's long jump with 8.17m - the best in the world this year and just 1cm short of the national record and (going by his form yesterday and just how far off the front of the board he took off from) there is a good year in store for him. It looks like he'll skip Prague next month to concentrate on the World Championships later on in the year.
This shot was taken by a remote camera, set up by the side of the long jump pit and trigger from over 60m away where I was at the end of the sprint straight.

Jenny Meadows is still number one in the world - winning the 800m in a time of 2:01.25

Nigel Levine continued his great start to the season by winning the 400m in 46.43 ahead of Jarryd Dunn (who also makes the plane to Prague) and loved every second of it:

Kim Collins won the 60m in 6.50 seconds ahead of Chijindu Ujah who finished second in 6.55 in a race which was disrupted by two false starts by Daniel Bailey (Antigua) and Michael Rodgers (USA):

Allan Smith was one of five athletes to clear 2.26m in a thrilling men’s high jump competition - winning the competition on countback as he was the only athlete to clear each height on the first attempt:
Lawrence Clarke came second in the men's 60m hurdles in 7.62 seconds, dipping over the line only just behind Kevin Craddock (USA):
Habiba Ghribi - Tunisia’s world and Olympic silver medallist - came good in the women's 3000m in a time of 8:46.61:

Axumawit Embaye (Ethiopia) seen here keeping tabs in an early lap, set a new all-comers record in the women’s mile in a time of 4:23.50:

Action from Day 2 of the UK Indoor Athletics Championships

On another busy day of top athletics at the EIS, Sheffield Jenny Meadows won the 800 metres at the British Indoor Championships in Sheffield,  clocking 2 minutes 1.43 seconds for her seventh title at the event.

Laura Muir took 1500m gold in 4:13.06 seconds

Nigel Levine clocked 46.86 seconds to win the men's 400m title for a record fifth successive time and meet the European qualifying standard.

Tom Bosworth smashed his lifetime best to take victory in the Men’s 3,000m walk in a time of 11:30.35 seconds
Luke Cutts and Adam Hague pushed each other on to take gold and silver in the Men's Pole Vault:

Katarina Johnson-Thompson followed up her high jump record yesterday with a new PB in the 60m hurdles (a 34 point improvement)

and then rushed to congratulate winner Serita Solomon who took the title in 8.04secs.

Good performances again from local athletes Karla Drew and Kristie Edwards

Will need plenty of time this week to go through the rest of the photos.....
