Sir Cliff Richard police inquiry 'significantly expanded'

The inquiry into Sir Cliff Richard at Bramall Lane in 1985 has "increased significantly in size" according to South Yorkshire Police.
The original allegation was centred on his presence at Bramall Lane, Sheffield in 1985 at a Billy Graham rally.  The photo above (part of a series) is from a post-rally event and is available for media use via the Ross Parry Agency.

Sir Cliff maintains that he has no idea where the "absurd and untrue" allegations have come from.  "I have never, in my life, assaulted anyone and I remain confident that the truth will prevail.  I have co-operated fully with the police, and will, of course, continue to do so."

Ched Evans - Jessica Ennis-Hill warns Sheffield United

Jessica Ennis-Hill has said today that she wants her name removed from the Sheffield United away stand if the club gives Ched Evans a contract.  The Olympic gold medallist - in whose honour the club's Bramall Lane stand was named after her London 2012 triumph - said re-signing the convicted rapist would "completely contradict" her beliefs.

She is the latest high-profile figure/sponsor to warn Sheffield United that ties will be cut if Evans is given a chance to play again for the club.  She said in a statement: "I believe being a role model to young people is a huge honour and those in positions of influence in communities should respect the role they play in young people's lives and set a good example.  If [Ched] Evans was to be re-signed by the club it would completely contradict these beliefs."

Sir Cliff Richard, Bramall Lane, 1985

Such a shame to hear of yet another celeb from the 1970s/1980s being investigated by the police.  It all seems a long time ago - I can hardly remember much actual detail of the event myself - but I did have my camera with me the night that Sir Cliff Richard sang at an after-event 'gig' for the support workers.
The slides have sat gathering dust for 29 years but are now gaining interest and are available at http://rossparry.co.uk/ (email: picturedesk@rossparry.co.uk)
