Put to The Sword

The Sword is British Fencing's magazine  which includes articles, reports and news from across the sport.  They have asked to use two photos of mine from the UK Fencing Championships 2011 for their next issue.

Why is Michaela Tabb so popular?

Just doing a few updates on the website with new photos, sections etc and thinking about the next BIG sporting event - the World Snooker Championships.
Over the past year Google Analytics has often shown one of my pictures of Michaela Tabb to be quite popular.  Many of the hits were at one time coming from Poland.
I'm still confused by it all but similar to many companies now I'm having a 'Spring Clearance' - the price for a digital JPG from the 2011 World Snooker Championships has been reduced from £15 to £5, valid until 31st March 2012.

What a busy week....

Half-Term last week - traditionally a time to chill, get a few jobs done and watch trashy films in the evening when the kids have gone to bed.Was very busy last week taking pix, choosing the best, processing them, sending them off to all and sundry and posting a few online, so the list of jobs stayed as long as before....
It all started off with a press conference at the EIS (Press Conference) for Jessica Ennis prior to the Aviva UK Indoor Athletics Trials and Championships.  Then two full days of the Aviva UK Indoor Athletics Trials and Championships (Athletics) being looked after by UKA and Aviva (thank you!).
This was followed by a training session with the US Olympic Diving Squad (Diving) at Ponds Forge in advance of the FINA World Cup in London.
All of this was on my doorstep so very hard to turn down the chance to do this with top sportspeople, unlike the chance to go to a press conference with Mo Farah in Birmingham which got chopped due to child-juggling (literally).

New Nikon Gear

Just recovering from a busy weekend at the UK Indoor Athletics Championships at the EIS in Sheffield.  Back to work and family duties - no idea when the editing will get done...

All the talk of the pro togs from London was that they were going to get a D4 when they come out - no-one seemed to want to know about the D800, wrong spec for sports I guess but most folks thought that they have missed a trick in not doing a D700 replacement, perhaps Nikon are holding on to that one for a while. Hope so, as I've not got any money to splash on anything for a while.

Rip off Britain

Well, I did think that this blog was going to be mainly photography related but I have been so flabbergasted this weekend that I thought it right to vent a bit of spleen on it.
We were very lucky and managed to get some tickets to see the athletics at the Olympics in August and booked our accommodation in London back in June 2011 when we knew that we had some tickets.  The room price was going to be £125 per night B&B (not cheap but not too bad looking at other prices for similar in London).  No deposit, monies to be paid 1 month prior.  Everything looking good, or so we thought until the hotel called us to say that they are bumping up the price to £200 per night "...as it is the Olympics....".
Well, blow me but that is just too much for words, but probably just enough to refer them to the Office of Fair Trading....?

New (old) back-up camera

Much as I would love to splurge £8k on a new D3S/D4 and 300mm f/2.8 lens, my head won over my heart and I picked up a 5yr old D200 and battry grip with less than 7k accuations.  It's not going to be stellar for indoor sports but will be handy as a back-up body for weddings and studio shoots and may even get pressed into service for arty sport shots (grainy images or stuck on a tripod and let the action flow past).

Canvas Prints

Had a lot of interest for canvas prints recently, based on an offer from 1ClickPrint.  Prints up to A2 size look fab for hanging in the home or office and do not need too much tweaking straight out of the camera.

I am putting an order together this week and will add some more in after half-term when there will be pix not only from the up-coming UK Indoor Athletics Championships at EIS but also a media Q&A with the US Olympic Diving team at Ponds Forge.
